First Week of School- August 24-28

HAPPY FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL!

This week we will spend a great deal of time getting to know each other and engaging in various icebreakers and team-building activities. We will also be practicing class procedures and familiarizing ourselves with the rules of the classroom.

Reading/Language Arts- We will be beginning the famous novel, "Holes", by Louis Sachar. We will acquire the associated vocabulary words needed for understanding, as well as discuss the chapters read in order to ensure comprehension.

Mathematics- The children will be required to take a "Beginning of the Year" and "Prerequisite" test to get a gauge of their abilities. These scores will be used to group all of the third graders according to their proficiency. These groupings will be used to form math classes or rotations. This means that there is a great chance I will not be your child's math teacher.

Science/Social Studies- This week we will discuss what it means to be a scientist. We will also learn about making observations using our five senses. We will also talk about the compass rose and the following basic landforms: lake, bay, river, peninsula, island, volcano, valley, mountain, hill, and plain.
